How long does it take to become a detective for the state of california?

Well im still in high school ,and im looking into the criminal justice industry. I want to become a homicide detective or some sort of detective. I would really like to know what are the requirements to become these things. What does it take? how long does it take? How much is the pay? I would really love to know these answers thanks!
