The worst case of homicide ever?

I'm writing a dark comedy in which an incompetent villain ends up killing off a vital character. Thing is I don't know how I should kill of this important character. I need for this plan to be so poorly thought out ,stupid,insane and just an all-around bad idea to the point that it is sheer genius. However,every idea I come up with seems to come off as logical or just not cartoonish enough. Any suggestions?
